Fire Safety

Last Sunday we took the kids to visit Quinn's brother, Kyle, at the fire station. We had been meaning to do it for a while. We thought he would just show us around and let Emma look at the fire truck but he went all out. He gave us a tour of the station and then took us out to the truck where he talked to Emma about what he does as a fireman. He put on all his gear telling her what each piece does and how she doesn't need to be afraid of firemen if they have to come to our house even though they sound like Darth Vader. He reminded her that if a fire we have to crawl on the floor and to stop, drop and roll. Then he took us all on a ride in the fire truck. It was a lot of fun. We didn't go far just to the empty parking lot next door. He let Quinn and Emma sit up front and turn the lights and sirens on. Then he got out the hose and let her put out a pretend fire. She loved every minute.

Emma found out his hat is really heavy.

He sent the kids home with hats, booklets on fire safety and pencil toppers. The next night for Family Home Evening we went over all the rules about fire safety that we had learned the night before and our escape plan. Emma now knows where to meet after and how to dial 911 which we hope she will only do in a true emergency. We also tried out our fire escape ladder that we can hook onto one of our back windows in case our stairs are blocked. Quiz Emma next time you see her!

Here are some pictures from Fireman Park that we had a picnic lunch at on one of the rare sunny days.

Isn't this a cute park. Emma loves it. It is one of my favorites because it only has one exit so the kids can't escape.

Lessons Quinn has learned.

A few days after Easter Quinn traveled for work to Chicago for four days. He had a great time and was able to get and see some sights. He says he will blog about it sometime. I was lucky enough to go out of town the weekend he got home. His mother was nice enough to come sit with the kids for two hours until Quinn got home (his flight was delayed). I headed to St. George with my Mom and my sister Anne for a scrapbook weekend and my sister Carly's house. We had a great time and got a lot of relaxing and eating done as well. Thanks for the fun weekend.

When I got home I found a stack of notes Quinn had made about what he had learned in addition to the notes I had left him. This was the first time that I had left him alone with two kids overnight. He did great but I don't think he is ready to do it any time soon. So here is what he learned:

The Boy = James The Girl = Emma
Bed/Crib = Good Garage = Bad
Shirts/Pants = Good Garbage Bags = Bad
Water/Milk = Good Mountain Dew = Bad
Feed Kids = Good Starve Kids = Bad
Play with Kids = Good Ignore Kids = Bad
Stuffed Animals = Good Blenders = Bad

Do Not Call 911 or Poison Control for bedtime tips
Neither kid needs a haircut in the next 3 days
Note: the girl can only lift about 15 pounds. The boy can hardly lift anything.

I'm sure glad they all survived.
Thanks for letting me go off and be myself again and not just someones mother.
I love you. You are a great husband and father.
Thanks!
