James' Blessing Day?

We were planning on blessing James the first Sunday in May but we just found out that this is our Stake Conference so we think our fast Sunday with be the second Sunday in May which is May 9th and also happens to Mothers Day. We are checking to make sure and will let you know. We also apologize if it is on Mothers Day. We know it is a busy day for many of you and definitely understand if you are not able to make it.

We will keep you posted on the official date and time.

Two Week Checkup

James had his two week check up and the doctor said he is just perfect. He is eating well and is up to 9 lbs. 4 oz. Everything is going good and he is sleeping pretty well I just wish he would do more of it from 10 pm to midnight and instead of choosing that for his alert time. Oh well, hopefully this will change soon. Emma is doing better with the situation. She constantly asks where Baby James is. She is also acting better towards me and being a little more patient. I am also learning how to better balance two kids. I haven't been brave enough to try and leave the house with both kids yet. Emma has learned though that she can get away with stuff when I am feeding him because I can't always get up off the couch to stop her.

Yesterday Emma finally decided to mother her doll. She sat down on the couch next to me while I was feeding James and fed her baby. I showed her how to burp the baby and cradle it. It was so cute. She continued to do this the whole afternoon.

Meeting Family!

James is now two weeks old and has had a lot of visitors.

Great Grandmother and Grandfather Moore

Great Grandma and Grandpa Zundel

Great Grandma Lavender

What a cutie!

He is still being a good baby. I hope it stays that way.

Aunt Carly and Uncle Jeff finally made it up from Cedar City for a visit.

Emma had a great time playing with Uncle Jeff.

Any time someone would come over, Emma would run around the house. Back and forth, here she decided to do it with her eyes closed. Show off!

Aunt Hannah also came for a visit while she was in town from Ohio.

Emma warmed right up to her after a few minutes and they had a great time playing.

Bright eyes for Aunt Hannah.

We got out of the house yesterday and headed to Ogden for the evening. It was so nice to be out.
Here are the Aunts and Grandma totally captivated by a sleeping James.

Playing with Easter eggs with Aunt Annie.

Two weeks old!

James' whole body turns bright red when he cries which isn't that often.

Presenting James Quinn Lavender

So we checked into the hospital at 7:30 am on Saturday March 13, 2010. The doctor came and checked me and I was almost dilated to a 5. He went ahead and broke my water and then suggested I go ahead and get an epidural thinking things would progress fast. Who am I to argue with the doctor. No need to feel contractions, right. Well I did end of feeling them for a little while because the epidural did not take on the right side of my body. After 2 extra doses the nurses convinced me to have it redone. I had no idea they could do this. I am so glad I did because it worked right away and because I had to sit up to get it it moved James into position and things progressed much faster. We think he had his head turned so my labor did not progress as fast the doctor thought it would. But after that I went from an 8 to a 10 in about 30-40 minutes. Luckily the doctor was in the building. After 2 contractions and only 6 pushes James arrived at 1:10 pm.

Quinn cutting the cord.

James in all his glory!

Mckay Dee Hospital has started promoting skin to skin contact immediately after birth. They just set him on my chest and check him out from there. This works better than the heat lamps they used to use in warming the babies up and also starts the bonding sooner.

Here is our little guy - so swollen.

James weighed in at 8 lbs. 12 oz. and 20 inches long. He beat Emma by 1 oz. and 1/2 inch. What a big guy.

Already found his thumb. This is not good. Emma sucks her thumb and while it is cute we can't take it away from her and have no idea when or how to make her stop. So we will probably be promoting the binky.

Ready to go home. We were lucky enough to only have to stay one night. I don't know how anyone can sleep in a hospital. The beds are uncomfortable, the place is noisy and they keep coming in to take your blood pressure.

We arrived home Sunday evening.

Happy to be home with a healthy baby boy.

My Mom kept Emma an extra day for us so that we could spend one full day home with just James to get our bearing. It was very relaxing.

Now that Emma is home she is okay with James. She doesn't want to hold him but asks to see him and loves to give him kisses. But she is acting out and very upset with Quinn and I. Hopefully she will adjust soon and understand that we still love her but we both can't give her our full attention all the time anymore.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Kisses for James.
Once again my milk never came in just like with Emma. Thankfully I was able to recognize the signs sooner and switch to formula. Our little guy is much happier now that he has a full tummy. Quinn can't get out of helping in the middle of the night now!

The swelling is pretty much all gone. This is our cute boy!

Tomorrow is the BIG day!

Yesterday was my 38 week appointment. I am already dilated to a 4 and all the way effaced. The Doctor asked me what I wanted to do. I really wasn't sure. I really want James to come on his own but I want him to come now. But I'm worried that he will be even bigger than Emma was if I go much longer. She was 8 lbs. 11 oz. These were my concerns. The Doctor then said well let me tell you my concerns. He said he was concerned that if my water broke I may not get to the hospital in time. Well that is now my biggest worry. So he looked at his calender and said how does Saturday sound. Sounds great to me.

So unless something happens today, tomorrow Saturday March 13, 2010 is the big day for James. I am very ready. It is so nice to know when this will happen so we can get Emma all taken care of and not have to be frazzled about her. We are to check into labor and delivery at McKay Dee Hospital at 7:30 am. Hopefully once things get started I will progress quickly.

Wish us luck!

A date with Mom and Dad

Emma stills enjoys being read too. Her favorite book is a book with stories about five of the Disney princesses. Little Mermaid and Snow White are the popular favorites. The other night she convinced her Dad to lay on the floor and read to her. It was so cute!

Look! Emma still has her smile. As you have probably noticed Emma's smile has been missing in pictures for the last few months. When the camera is pulled out Emma looks away or clamps her mouth shut tight. Finally we found something that worked at least that night. We asked her to show us her teeth. Yeah!

The loves of my life.

Well since James has still not made his appearance yet we decided to have one last fun outing with Emma before her life gets interupted. Saturday afternoon we headed to Kangaroo Zoo in North Salt Lake. It is just a big building filled with blowup bounce toys and slides. Emma loved it once she figured out what to do.

Emma was climbing the ladder to go down one of the slides when another kid decided he needed to stop her. He grabbed her foot and tried to pull her off. You can see the panick in her face. Boys....

Emma had a great time, I was able to sit most of the time and watch while Quinn walked around with her. It tired her out and got her ready for a good nights sleep. The best $3.00 we ever spent. Thanks Kangaroo Zoo.
