4 Months Old

I can't believe our baby is already 4 months old. It goes by so fast. It was this time last year when we found I was pregnant. Wow. I love being a Mom, and I love to see Quinn as a Dad. He is so good with her and loves to make her smile and laugh. It's great that he is so hands on and can change a really poopy diaper.

We had Emma's picture taken again at Target in her Easter dress of course. Things didn't go as smoothly as they did the first time. We didn't get as many shots because she started to get upset. I also tried everything I could think of to get her to smile but she was just not comfortable. The camera was just to big and intimitating, but they still turned out adorable.

Emma and Daddy playing!

Emma in her new toy, an exersaucer! It rocks, bounces, and the chair swivels. She doesn't know all this yet but she like it and loves to be up where she can look around at everything.

This past week we got to spend an evening with our friends from Portland. They are down visting their family durning a break from his school schedule (chiropractic school) and they set aside a night to visit us. They have been away for a couple of years and we were actually able to visit them last summer in Portland and had a blast. We can't wait till they move back to Utah though. We (Quinn, myself, Emma, Will, Challene, and their two boys Ethan and Joshua) first had dinner at Robintino's here in Bountiful and then went bowling. We all love to bowl, and the boys had a blast. Emma was really good and slept in her car seat, yeah!

Daddy/Daughter Day V

Over Easter weekend we got to see members of the extended family and some of them commented on our blog. In particular I took some ribbing for the fact that in a previous Daddy/Daughter Day post, I mentioned that among the errands I'd run was one to Michael's -- a craft store. Despite my best explanations for being there (e.g. I was buying a baseball card holder, or I was attempting to construct a pacifier holder and needed materials), my manliness was essentially called into question.

Yesterday, Emma and I went to Home Depot, Ace Hardware, and Napa Autoparts. Take that, naysayers!!!

What a great baby we have! Emma was in such a good mood yesterday. I couldn't even believe it. She was smiling when I got her up in the morning; she smiled when I put her in her car seat (unusual), she smiled when I ran all those errands with her; she even smiled during tummy time (even more unusual). She even smiled during The Great Diaper Blowout of 2008. That's right, right before Mom came home -- during tummy time actually -- Emma (excuse me for the unlady-like imagery) blasted two of the biggest farts a 4-month old could possibly muster. I didn't know it at the time, but what had occurred in that stinky moment was The Great Diaper Blowout of 2008. I will leave out most of the gory details from The Great Diaper Blowout of 2008, but I will mention the casualties: one diaper, one onesie, one romper, one blanket, seven wetwipes, one hand washing, one hand sanitizing, one baby wipedown, the remainder of the bottle of baby-stain remover, and about one-half hour. Oh, and while Daddy cleaned up after The Great Diaper Blowout of 2008, Emma fell asleep. With a little smile on her face.

There are no pictures of The Great Diaper Blowout of 2008, but here is a funny monkey picture:

Happy Easter

Happy Easter everyone. Emma is four months old today! I can't believe it. We had a great Easter with lots of family, fun and food. To much food in fact. We had dinner at Grandma and Grandpa Zundel's with my family and even Bruce Allen and Jenny drove up to join us from BYU. We hadn't seen them since Thanksgiving so they had not seen Emma yet(she did not appear till the day after). It was a wonderful meal where we all ate too much. Then we watched old family videos of past Easters and other family memories. After a few games of "spoons" it was time for dessert of course. Then it was time to visit Quinn's parents. Emma was wonderful and mostly happy through the day even though she missed a nap. At least she wasn't hyped up on candy. She was visited by the Easter Bunny who brought her books and bubbles. We have tried the bubbles and she just stares at them with no expression yet. It was so fun to have a little girl to dress up for Easter this year. Grandma Van Bibber picked out this Easter dress for her. I think it is adorable. Enjoy the pictures.

Happy Easter!

Ping Pong Tournament

We had dinner at my parents home last Sunday and they decided we needed a have a Ping Pong Tournament. Everyone played and we tried to keep the trash talk to a minimum because it was Sunday. :) The championship game came out to be between Quinn and Daniel. It was a close game and came down the last point. I'll let the pictures tell you who won.

The Winner!
Congratulations to Daniel and Hannah for their acceptance into Ohio State's Medical and Dental School!!

The Loser :(

The whole crazy family.

Daddy/Daughter Day Part IV: The Unnecessary Sequel to the Unnecessary Sequel

I watched Emma on Monday. She was good.

The end.

What A Cute Girl We Have!

For some reason Quinn and I did not take very many pictures of Emma these last two weeks but luckily my Mom took some and boy are they cute. She had her posing and smiling so good. I couldn't resist posting them along with some of ours. Emma just gets cuter every day. She is constantly smiling and is so happy. She now sleeps an average of 11 hours a night. I don't think she is asleep the whole time though because I will hear her on the baby monitor just sucking on her thumb (she loves it). I will also go in there in the morning and she will be wide awake just staring at her mobile and she will be completely wet up her back because her diaper leaked but she never cries and is as happy as can be. We are so lucky to have such and happy go lucky kid.

We are very happy that weather is finally warming up. Emma and I go for a walk almost every day. Sometimes she falls asleep but mostly I think she just looks at everything around. I bought her some sunglasses because when we first went out the sun was so bright she would not open her eyes, now she can. I also want her to get used to them before she is able to take them off herself.

On a walk wearing her U of U sweatshirt, Dad is so proud. Emma however is upset that the stroller stopped and the sunshade was pulled back.

Cute girl, but she now wears a bib because she has started to drool a lot.

This is our Easter monkey. He is dressed up with bunny ears and a tail. :)

Grandma propped Emma up in her crib with her stuffed animals.

Grandma took Emma outside with her shades to wait for Mom to get home from work.

Playing with Dad. Nice drool stain.

Emma had a freak out moment last night. We had to get the camera because you just make out two tears rolling down her cheek.

Daddy/Daughter Day III; The Unnecessary Sequel

Just like Back to the Future III, The Godfather III, and Revenge of the Nerds III -- The Next Generation, the third week of Daddy/Daughter Day just wasn't as exciting as the originals. It started off badly when I struggled to get Emma to even go to sleep on Sunday night. Man, did she give me a hard time. It was as fussy as I've ever seen her be. Eventually though, all that crying, pacifier spitting, bottle rejecting, straining, and body stiffening (I love it when she does that; it's like a mini-temper tantrum right in your arms) tired her out, and she had no choice but to fall asleep. The next day, Monday, she woke up happy and calm. We ran some more errands and she was good the whole time but hardly napped. When I tried to get her to take her afternoon nap she was extremely resistant again, but luckily Laura came home from work and saved the day. My hero.

Just Pictures! 14 Weeks or 3 1/2 Months Old!!

Daddy helped Emma discover herself in the mirror.

Emma's outfit for her day with Dad. Quinn had her matching and everything.

Emma can now hold something in her hand!

Flying lessons!!

She loves her giraffe, his neck is just the right size for her little chubby hand.

Emma is sucking on the giraffe's ear. How cute!

Daddy/Daughter Day Part Deux

Monday was my second attempt at solo fatherliness with Emma and I'm happy to report that no physical or mental trauma occurred. Emma was fine, too. (insert rimshot here)

Part out of necessity and part out of wanting to prove that I could take care of Emma without constantly putting her down for a nap, we had an ambitious errand-running schedule. Things started off badly when I realized I had forgotten her pacifier. She was pretty fussy during our car ride to the credit union, so I decided to take her off of the dashboard and balance her on my knee instead. (Note to any government entities who may be spying on me: this last sentence was purely in jest)

After awhile in the car she fell asleep and stayed that way through most of my Shopko visit; then she woke up and just stared around at all the new things there were to see. I think she was just happy to be somewhere other than our living room. She stayed awake through Michael's, feel asleep at Dollar Tree, dozed at TJ Maxx, and was wide awake at the grocery store. When she was awake she was as pleasant as could be, with her shiny blue eyes looking around at everything as we walked past. I have to say what a wonderful parental feeling it is to walk past perfect strangers who strain to see your baby as you walk past and then whisper to whoever they're with what a cute baby that was. I might just walk around with her every week so I can hear that stuff. She slept the rest of the way home and was resting quietly while I ate lunch until a visitor arrived and woke her.

After lunch we went for a walk in her new road stroller. It has nice big tires that roll really smoothly -- so smoothly in fact that when I stopped to tie my shoe one time, she rolled down the street, around the corner, across two sets of train tracks, through the #7 fairway of the golf course and crashed into one of those kids standing on the corner holding a Little Caeser's sign. This she did without waking up. (Another note: just a joke)

In all it was another wonderful day and I feel so blessed to have such a cute and good-natured baby to call mine.

No pictures of our outing, but here's a picture of a funny monkey:
