Funniest blog comment of the year

I just want to take this moment to give out a previously unplanned award for funniest comment left on our blog this year.

The comment was left by my brother-in-law, Daniel, on the blog entry about the Nesquik Bunny vs. the Trix Rabbit (see several posts ago -- p.s. - it's not too late to vote.)

The comment reads:

Quinn: "Question. Which kind of rabbit is best?"
Daniel: "Thats a ridiculous question"
Quinn: "False. Trix rabbit"
Daniel: "Well thats debatable...There are basically two schools of thought.."
Quinn: "Fact: rabbits eat roots. Rabbits, roots, RABQSA Certified ISO 13485 Lead Auditor."
Daniel: "Fine. I'm not voting for any animal that eats its own excrement anyways."

(This exchange was liberally interpreted from an episode of The Office.)

Bravo, Daniel. I salute you. Here is your award, which you may post with pride wherever you wish...

Carly's Wedding Day

Well the wedding day finally came. Carly and Jeff were married on Friday Oct. 24th in the Salt Lake Temple. They had a beautiful warm sunny day. Everything went really well. After the ceremony and a few pictures we all head to El Matador in Bountiful for lunch. Thank you Carly and Jeff for making our life easy. We were able to take Emma home and get her down for a nap with Grandma Lavender so we could go and enjoy the lunch. The Reception was that night in Ogden at the White House. It turned out really nice. I don't have that many photos from the reception because we had a real photographer there but enjoy what I have. Only one more reception to go in Cedar City in a week or so. We love you Carly and Jeff. Congratulations!!

Daddy/Daughter Saturday

This past Saturday Laura made the journey to Ogden to go with her mom to the most important Relief Society meeting of the year....Super Saturday! Forget about a "lesson" or a "speaker" and pass the jigsaw, glitter, and hobby paint!

Anywho, since Laura didn't think it would be a good idea to shephard Emma with one hand while hot-gluing with the other, she left Emma home with me. And fun ensued. This time, I remembered to take pictures.

Emma and I had fun playing together with her new monkey, Bongo.

Hello, Bongo.

Hello, Emma.

After Monkey Time was over, we had lunch. Emma likes to feed herself; however, this can be problematic since her dexterity is less-than-stellar (especially on slippery foods) and her utinsil-wielding skills are non-existant. This often leads to messy hands, messy face, messy hair, messy high chair tray, messy floor around the high chair, and messy mommy/daddy. The lunch du jour on Saturday was half of a cut-up banana, blueberry yogurt, and string cheese cubes. I felt that I had done well by keeping the food on the front 180 degrees of her face and (as far as I could tell) out of her hair. In fact, she was pretty dang clean, in my humble opinion.

And yet, when I got her out of the high chair and put her on the floor in the living room, I noticed a mysterious stain on the back of her shirt:

Closer inspection revealed this stain to be mushed-up banana. Now how on EARTH does an 11-month-old get a banana stain on her back? Emma claimed that I must have spilled the banana on her. Unfortunately, the immutable laws of physics contradict the whole premise of her account. Allow me to reconstruct this if I may for the blog readers as I've encountered this a number of times. Emma, if you'll indulge me. According to your story, I'm sitting next to your high chair when I used my right hand to pass you a banana chunk. Then you say you were struck by the banana chunk on the right temple. The banana then proceeds to ricochet off the temple striking you between the third and fourth rib. The banana then came off the rib turned and hit you in the right wrist causing you to to drop your sippy cup. The banana then splashed off the wrist, pauses --in mid air, mind you-- makes a left turn and lands on directly on your back. That is one magic banana chunk.

After lunch we paused for a picture...and some college football.

Then, in typical Emma fashion, she tried to eat the camera.

Later, Emma decided she wanted to play the piano. I hope she inherits mom's musical talents.

And now for the best photo of the day: while Emma was quietly playing with her toys, I went out to the garage to put something away. I was gone for about a minute. When I came back, this was the scene:

Emma had crawled over to the end table and knocked over the lamp (nothing broken, thankfully) and was sitting there with a look on her face like she knew she had just done something very wrong. Cute little girl. Now NEVER DO THAT AGAIN! Love, Daddy.

It was another great Daddy/Daughter day. Each time I do this I'm more grateful for the wonderful women in my life (wife, mother, mother-in-law) who take care of Emma during the day.

St George Trip

Well it has been a crazy two weeks as we prepared for my sister's wedding. On Friday the 17th Emma and I picked Quinn up from work and we headed to St. George. Emma was not feeling well and we had already spent an hour in the doctors office that morning. She was in her third day of running a fever but the doctor couldn't find anything wrong and the few things she tested for the results would take all weekend to get. So we decided to go ahead with our plans. I thought Emma would sleep the whole way, but her fever just made her miserable. She was really good despite not feeling well and we made it to my Grandma's in St. George. We were here because this is where Carly wanted to recieve her endowment. She has been attending SUU in Cedar City and her fiancee,Jeff Rock, is also from Cedar City.

Grandma and Grandpa Moore were so very nice and gave up their bedroom for us, hoping Emma would sleep better in there instead of in the living room. I am so grateful for them. I think this did help but she was still awake at 5:00 am. It was after we tried everything else that we finally moved her out of the playpen and into the bed with us. This has always scared me, I'm afraid I will roll over her, but we din't and she did get back to sleep. However, Emma is a very busy sleeper. She wakes several times and has to get comfortable again before going back to sleep. Eventually Quinn and I were able to get back to sleep as well. I officially feel like a Mom now because at one point Emma sat up and leaned back against me and fell asleep lying on my neck. There was no way I was going to move her and thought she couldn't lay like that long but she did and I somehow fell asleep too. Quinn was very impressed. Only a mother could do this!

As we were getting ready to go the temple Emma was not happy and her fever was back. She was not eating or drinking much and I had planned to leave her with my sister Anne and Grandma. I walked over to her to comfort her and to my surprised she threw up all over me and the only dress I had brought with me. After getting her cleaned up and calmed down a little. I started getting ready again. She of course did not like me leaving her and was screaming. It was at this point that I realized that I had 15 min. to get my makeup on, my hair dried, and my dress stilled smelled like throw up that I decided it was not worth it. I sent Quinn to the temple without me, even though he volunteered to stay with her. She just wanted her mommy. Fortunatly she felt better just a little while later and even drank something.

So, Carly I'm really sorry I missed it. Later that night we had dinner at Jeff's house so we could get to know him and his family better. We had a great time and Emma did great even though she was up late. After a wonderful dinner we all took turns telling funny stories about Carly and Jeff. We had a great time and feel like we got to know them so well. We love you Jeff and your family. You ROCK!

Sunday morning Emma's fever broke and she immediatly started acting like her old self. Mom, Dad, Anne, and Taylor left early to get back to Ogden. Quinn and I planned to go to church with Grandma and Grandpa before leaving. Just as we were getting ready Quinn realized his church clothes were gone. My Dad had packed them with his things and so we just stayed home and let Quinn and Emma catch up on some sleep before the drive home. What a weekend!

Emma's new favorite "surprised" face to make!

Our tired, sick girl.

Thank you Grandma for the Teddy Bear and Monkey, Emma loves them and they made the trip home easier.

Our Cute Little Monkey!

Well two Sunday's ago we drove up to Snowbird for the afternoon and during the first snowfall of the season. It was beautiful and snowed on and off all day. Here is our cute family:

Now for the real reason for this post. Last Wednesday when Quinn rode trax to work Emma and went to pick him up. We drove over to Gardiner Village to visit the witches and to take some cute pictures of Emma in her Halloween costume. She is going to be a monkey. The day was very nice and not cold at all, but our little Emma was not feeling very well. She had a tooth just about ready to pop through and was running a slight fever. I was hoping the Tylenol would kick in by the time we got there and it did but only enough so that she wasn't in pain. She was not however up to smiling in any photo we took. We also had a hard time just getting her to look at the camera. She was so distracted by all the other children running around. Despite the no smiles everyone we past commented on how cute she was and I whole heartily agree. Enjoy our cute little monkey!
