Week 2 of Social Distancing

March 22 - 28th
Sunday started with french toast and bacon for breakfast as requested by Mia. Followed by teaching Toby to jump through a hoop. The kids also had fun building a fort. Mia helped to make bread. Church was held at the kitchen table.

Monday we continued our school work at home. Emma now works on her own and is in charge of her learning. Her 4 6th grade teachers told us parents not to micromanage. She knows what to do and if it doesn't get done it's on her. I spent a good portion of my day helping Mia with her work. James is pretty independent and likes the work and gets it done quickly. For FHE we all were charged with sharing a skill or talent with the family and had to teach something. Mine was teaching Mia how to make bread. The other two were supposed to help but didn't. James taught us all about rocks and three types and the rock cycle. Mia taught us how to draw a bunny face. Emma taught us how to draw a dragon. And Quinn shared a little bit about his coin collection.

Tuesday was more of the same school wise. Quinn also worked from home. Mia enjoyed reading one of her favorite books. We were able to get for a walk in the afternoon.

Wednesday was school again. I pulled a muscle in my back during my workout and so we took it easy the rest of the day. We made cookies but something went wrong and they did not taste very good which was disappointing to everyone. But James was so happy when his Legos arrived a day early. They are a birthday present for all the Lavenders since we had to cancel our monthly get together. Mia made a car out of the box it came so it was a win win!

Thursday we woke up to snow on the ground which was a bummer but a good excuse to turn the fireplace on and do our schoolwork there. Enjoy this poem read with feeling by James for a school assignment. James also finished his Legos. We played with the dog and I again too it easy with my back.

Friday was more school work. James had to write a poem with letters of his name and it had to describe him. I think he did a great job. But the highlight of the day was teacher parade. We had to wait about 2 hours for them to finally get to us but we were thankfully not last. The teachers spent about 3.5 hours doing this parade but it was so worth it. My kids made their own sign and said how much they missed their teachers and being at school. They have realized how much they miss it. The good thing about the wait was just being outside in the sun and waiting with some friends (6 feet apart of course) even if it was a bit chilly. All of my kids teachers were in the parade and it really was so great to see them if only for a second. The principal was dressed up in a pink bunny suit and kids thought it was great. He wore it for Halloween too. The teachers have all been really great through this as they too are missing their students and all the struggles with technology on both ends. We have great teachers! Then we relaxed that night with Chinese jump rope and a movie.

Saturday was spent doing a little bit of everything. We had a relaxing morning of video games followed by some school work that needed to finished before spring break. We did some house cleaning before going outside to play moldy orange baseball and then regular baseball. We all really enjoyed being outside and having fun! Quinn also got the mirror hung in the downstairs bathroom. Another joke this week enjoyed by the whole family involved erasers. James wrote TNT on a bunch of erasers and then we have taken turns putting them in funny places - in shoes, closets, pockets, under pillows. When you find them you blow up and then it is your turn to hide them. James after putting them under Quinn's pillow found them strapped to his favorite stuffed animal Red. Red did blow up but James quickly performed CPR and miraculously revived him and all is well.
