Sunday was day 2 of General Conference. In last October's General Conference, President Nelson promised us that April's conference would look very different. He was right of course. One change was that there was a general theme to the conference, the Restoration. He asked us to study the First Vision and the restoration of the gospel. We did this as a family leading up to conference and it was wonderful. So many of the talks then focused on this topic and the wonderful ongoing process of spreading the gospel to the world. We are so lucky to be apart of this gospel and have a living prophet guide and direct us. The other change was that no one was able to attend General Conference in person. Due to the coronavirus the only people who attended conference were those speaking and praying. Conference was broadcast from a small auditorium at the Conference Center. The choir music was taken from previous conferences. Another change was everyone listened to the Saturday night session. It was not a priesthood session and they also had two youth speakers give talks on the priesthood. They did so good! Sunday morning we participated in a Solemn Assembly and did the Hosanna Shout. The prophet also announced a new proclamation entitled The Restoration of the Fullness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Can't wait to study it. He also announced 8 new temples. Two of which are in China and Dubai.
We had a big breakfast in the morning and between and after conference we got outside for a bit. The kids tried to fly their new kites but it just wasn't happening.
Monday: Spring break was fun and now we are back to our new normal. We spent the morning doing school work and then went to the park to play and try and fly kites.
James was the only one who was able to get his kite up in the air!
We took Toby's bed in the car for the short drive to see if it would help him relax and it finally did on the way home. (For just a minute he laid down in it. But he also knew we were going home.)
Tuesday - School work and then chalk art to participate in our neighborhood chalk art festival. We walk around the block to check out others works of art and James scored big by finding a drum set for Lego Rock Band that someone was getting rid of. He's super excited to play.
Mia had to listen to a book about a castle and then had to build a castle out of paper cups for part of her school work.
Mia still working hard. No picture of James working because he finished so fast. So he moved on to free time.
Emma taking a break from school work to do art. She made a birthday card for Great Grandma Moore's 89th birthday. We are sad we can't go visit her in person.
Our chalk art!
This one was done by our neighbor. It is of the world being held by God's hands.
The drums are harder than James thought but still having fun!
Wednesday - School work, bike ride/walk around the neighborhood and then outside to play in the sun. These kids though it was nice enough to put on swim suits and play in the water. They begged to get the swimming pool out but I though that 68 degrees was not quite warm enough for that.
Video of Mia being silly!
Thursday - School work and science experiments. Then we escaped the house and drove to get a soda and pick up a microphone for Lego Rock Band to complete our set. I was able to order one from Game Stop in Salt Lake for about $5 and they brought it out to me. It was so so nice to get out and have a change of scenery and something to do.
James has been learning about clouds and weather. Here are two of the four experiments he did. He only had to do one but he was having so much fun and is so quick he did all 4. You are awesome James! The first one he is using food coloring and shaving cream to show rain. And the second is making a cloud using warm water, 2 cups and an ice cube.
Mia wanted to do school work on her bed today and Emma finally came up from her room and said she needed help staying on task. She is a bit behind.
We got out of the house and got our sodas. A nice treat.
And here they all are rocking out!
Quinn asked if this mask would help protect him from the virus since they are required to wear one at work unless they have an office and can shut the door? Which he does thankfully for him, all the other workers in cubicles have to wear a mask all day. Here is his actual mask. Thanks to my workout buddy Pam for making them.
Friday was special, it was Good Friday. The day our prophet asked us to fast for relief from Covid-19 and protection for our healthcare workers. I talked with the kids the night before and all the kids decided to participate. Emma and James both fasted food and water and did a great job. They made it until about 3:30. Mia decided she would fast from snacks and was able to accomplish that. So proud of them. We continued our school work, my workout, which I do daily with my friend Pam. We decided to continue getting together to workout because is helps with our sanity. Our kids do not come and we both wear a mask. Neither one of us is getting together with anyone else and we only go to the store once a week so we feel this is okay. After fasting we decided to get take out along with so many other people apparently and had to settle for McDonald's because our first two choices the waits were way too long. After dinner it was movie night. We watched Onward, it was really cute.
Saturday - A day of cleaning for Quinn and Laura. No idea what the kids did really. I assume they played on electronics most of the day. They totally took advantage of the fact that Mom and Dad were too busy and then tired to care.
I did catch this cute picture of the kids talking to their friend over the fence.
Mia making a potion.
Play an online game with the same friend.
The cleaning and organizing of the garage, shed and all the tools. It so needed to be done!
This girl played outside most of the day. Here she is taking her stuffed animals out for a wagon ride.
Getting closer.
