Crappy Birthday...to...you!
Lauralee turned 28 years young last Friday. It was going to be a magical, happy birthday weekend.
Instead...
*She spent the majority of the day at home chasing after our 22-month-old (when I got home from work and asked her how her birthday was going she said, "Just another day...")
*I got home from work late and didn't have time to wrap and give her her birthday presents before we had to leave for dinner. She didn't end up opening them until about 11 PM.
*She didn't get to eat where she wanted to eat (50-minute wait at Red Lobster) and instead had to settle for Training Table (0-minute wait).
*The movie we went to see (Julia and Julie) was rife with technical difficulties (two all-out interruptions, and a 15-minute "blurry phase" where it looked like we were watching a dream sequence. We weren't, unfortunately.)
So her birthday didn't go well, BUT -- we still had a Bear Lake weekend to look forward to. Lauralee and Emma left on Saturday morning, and I was going to join them on Sunday (I went to the USA soccer game on Saturday night). We're usually at the lake over Labor Day / Lauralee's birthday, and we always have a good time -- so much so that Lauralee has tried to call the event her "birthday week." So we were all looking forward to a great weekend.
Instead...
*Emma threw up all over the back seat just outside of Brigham City. Lauralee can handle lots of things, but throw up is not one of them. Frankly, it's amazing she was able to continue at all.
*Once at the lake, Laura accidentally cut her arm on a jagged car antenna. It was a nasty cut --we're talking down to the fatty tissue. Luckily E.R. doctor Uncle Bruce was there (shoutout to the Vernalites -- holla!) and was able to apply the 12 stitches it took to put Lauralee together again.
*Emma failed to nap at all on Saturday, slept only a few hours Saturday night (with long periods of screaming in between) and failed to nap on Sunday as well. Lauralee was miserable and sleep deprived when I arrived on Sunday. Her first words to me: "I need a hug."
So Happy Birthday Laura! Because nothing says "I love you" like a mostly non-special/second rate dinner/technically inferior movie/up-past-your-bedtime birthday present/throw-up covered/minor medical emergency/sleep deprived weekend! Love you babe! Don't worry. We'll make this right somehow.

August?
I can't believe August is over already and I haven't posted a single thing. I don't know where the time goes. We have been a little busier. I also picked up and extra day at work while one of my co-workers is on maternity leave so that hasn't helped either. Emma is still growing like crazy. She is turning in a two year old as well. One minute she is all cute and lovey and the next she is yelling at me because I didn't do something exactly right. We didn't do much in August. No trips anywhere except the park and to Farmington Pond last Saturday to feed the geese and to let Quinn go letter boxing. Here are some pictures from the last month.

Butt Shield Revealed
Thanks to all of you who took a stab at our last "What in the World?" post. There were many guesses, ranging from the practical (paintballing, horseback riding) to the humorous (bootie dancers, flat-butted people) to the metaphorical (Utah State Aggies football fans).
In fact, the butt shield is used for snowboarding. I've never been snowboarding, but apparently you fall on your butt a lot, and apparently snow isn't soft enought to cushion your fall. Thus...the Butt Shield. The snowboarding industry's equivalent of stuffing rolls of Charmin down your pants.
Behold:

I especially like this diagram that shows you the relationship between your Butt Shield and your pants. The Butt Shield is supposed to "peak" above your pants. If you're wearing thong underwear, then I suppose that would have to then "peak" above your Butt Shield.

What in the World?
I was perusing the Internet the other day when I came across a rather interesting product. I'm curious to know if any of you can guess what this product is used for.
Are you ready?
Here it is:
Are you ready?
Here it is:
Obviously it's intended to protect your butt. But under what circumstances would you most likely to be wearing a butt protector?Leave your guesses in the comments section.

Look What I Won
I've attempted to chronicle my amusing exploits into fatherhood for a variety of reasons: as a form of therapy, as possible court evidence, and to give my wife (and other mothers out there) some good "eye rolling material." But the real payoff came last week, when I was awarded this:

The award was presented specifically for my bath-themed trilogy of posts which chronicled my attempts to avoid, and failures in, bathing my toddler daughter.
The award comes from the good folks over at Livin' Bur'nati (click here for hilarity)-- the world's foremost interweb site for aquatic-related humor. To receive this award is to be honored with greatness. And even though I technically have to share the award, in my heart it will always remain with me, like my barbed wire tatoo and my second degree felony conviction.

We Should Have Seen This Coming
How many times have you been watching a seemingly family-friendly movie, only to have a raunchy or profane scene partway through that leaves you wondering, "Why'd they have to do that?" Or have you ever been caught up in a TV series that seems wholesome, only to find that it's 'retooled' in the second or third season to be a little bit more risque? I have too, which is why none of us should be surprised at the newest Harry Potter book:

Yes, we should have seen this coming. Our Harry Potter is all grown up.
