Week 15 - Father's Day and Day trip to Big Cottonwood Canyon

Sunday June 21st was Father's Day and our first day back at church for Sacrament Meeting. And guess who had to speak, me! I don't know what it is about me speaking on Father's Day and Quinn speaking on Mother's Day but here I was speaking again 4 years later on the same day. My topic was not fathers this time but Missionary Work. And I only had to speak for 7-10 minutes so I will take it.

Father's Day was not too exciting for Quinn. He got lots of home made cards (mostly from Mia), some treats and soda and a box of his favorite cereal which I never buy. But he also got a nice yo-yo, after I watched him try to do some tricks with a cheap one. And a new hose reel for the yard, yeah! His card from me also included a gift card to Amazon to make up for all the other lame gifts. We do love our Dad!

On Wednesday we had dinner at the park with all of the Lavenders. It was the first time we were all together since February. It was in honor of Grandpa Lavender's birthday. It was so nice to be out of the house and visiting with everyone. Hunter had fun playing with the bubbles Mia blew for him. Just before leaving Emma spotted 4 juvenile Cooper Hawks in the trees. It was fun to watch them chase each other for a few minutes.

Friday Mckenna came and finished Emma's jungle wall. We all love it! Emma is excited to finally put her room totally back together. It's only been 3 months. She is so lucky to have such a talented Aunt who will come and help her accomplish her dream and let her help and make it totally her own.

Saturday we escaped a bit of the heat and spent the day exploring Big Cottonwood Canyon. Love Utah! We had lunch at Ledgemere picnic area and explored a cave. Then we did two very short hikes on Mills B South Interpretive Trail to a waterfall and Hidden Falls. We ended with the walk around Silver Lake at Brighton. The kids are also working on earning their Junior Forest Ranger Badge. It was a great day.

Why does James make this face in every picture we take now?

We looked the birds up when we got home on Emma's info card of Raptors and they are Coopers Hawks and not full grown yet.

We played Book Of Mormon Guess Who after dinner one night. Mia is just using her blue light blocking glasses to hold up her card.

Mia also wanted to share how silly Toby is after his bath.

Just wanted to capture Mia and her Dad. Whenever we watch slightly intense or things she thinks will be scary, Mia will sit next to her Dad because he lets her squeeze his arm if she needs too.

Mia and I didn't want to take the chance of getting our shoes wet to make it to the falls.

Working on her Junior Forrest Ranger booklet to get her badge.
