Better Wizard Match-Up; The Results Show

As I typed the phrase "The Results Show" in the title, it kind of made me think of this post as an American Idol results show, which is totally appropriate, because this post will have about 58 minutes of time-wasting material followed by 2 minutes of actual results.

This was one of the best-received random match-ups we've had at the Worst Blog Ever, and I'm really pleased to have been the source of the healthy debate. In fact, we had more comments on this post than we did on the one detailing the birth of our boy. But don't worry, readers: I'm not judging you.

My vote on these random match-ups doesn't usually matter unless there is a tie. It doesn't carry any extra weight and I'm a believer in letting the majority rule these votes, even when the majority is wrong. This is one of those instances.

I vote for Gandolf for the simple reason that if Dumbledore is such a great wizard...why is he dead? Gandalf wins by default if for no other reason.

However, the official results came back thus: 6 votes for Dumbledore, 5 votes for Gandalf, 2 people who made a few comments but didn't actually pick either of them. And therefore, by the slimmest of margins, Dumbledore wins the title.

One final note: the voting for these wizards was split almost exactly down one particular demographic: college graduates almost always chose Gandalf. 100% of voters with advanced degrees voted for Gandalf. I'm not sayin....I'm just sayin.

Random Match-Up: Better Wizard

Who's the better wizard?

Dumbledore?

Or Gandalf?

(Since I'm anticipating at least one extra-nerdy reader to ask: Let's say for the sake of this match-up that we're talking about Gandalf the White.)

Best Bond: the results show

The results are in, and although I'm not surprised, I'm a little disappointed. Daniel Craig received 6 votes, Sean Connery 4 votes, and Roger Moore only one vote (mine). One commenter just wanted to know why he couldn't vote for Pierce Brosnan, Timothy Dalton, or George Lazenby.

I am aware of Daniel Craig's striking good looks and athletic build, but I would have bet the farm that Bond aficionados would have favored Sean Connery since he a) is no slouch either b) was the original Bond c) is tied with Roger Moore for most movies -- seven --, and d) doesn't have that ridiculous pouty lipped look on his face like Daniel Craig. It appears, however, that I underestimated Craig's affect on the women (they all fan themselves when he's on screen) and the men (they can't wait for him to leap off buildings as they explode, and let's face it, Bond just wasn't doing that in the 70s.) The captivation with him is so great, that people were willing to overlook the fact that Daniel Craig has appeared in only two Bond movies. Can we judge the best Bond from only two movies? Even my mother-in-law, whom I would have pegged for a staunch Connery supporter, voted for Craig. The tides have changed.

To answer the previously posed question, I felt that I was doing everyone a favor by removing Lazenby, Dalton, and Brosnan from the voting, since it seemed obvious to me that Roger Moore was the best of the "also-rans". Moore did gain my vote, however, for the following reasons: 7 movies under his belt and no "pretty boy" smirk (advantages over Craig), and an authentic English accent (advantage over Connery). How does anyone justify Britain's top crime fighter having a Scottish accent? It never made sense to me.

Regardless, I will abide by the voice of the voters. Daniel Craig has thus defeated Sean Connery and Roger Moore as the "Best Bond."

Better M*A*S*H Man -- The Results Show

Thanks to all who participated in this Potter v. Blake showdown. I thought I might have to cast the deciding vote here, but as it turned out, Colonel Sherman Tecumseh Potter is officially the winner. For the record, I vote for Potter too. No doubt that Blake was funnier, but I appreciated having Potter there as the 'straight man.' There was still plenty of comedy to go around with Blake gone.

So, way to go, Harry Morgan! You can now include in your list of accolades the fact that you narrowly defeated McLean Stevenson in a non-scientific poll hosted on blog that nobody reads. You have my permission to print this post and tape it to the wall next to your Emmy.

Results of the fast food Showdown Royale...with cheese

Thanks to all to participated in this random match-up. The response was so great that I actually had to tally the votes on paper.

I wanted to give my two cents on the matter, which are: The Burger King costumed mascot guy is actually quite creepy, and I'm really surprised that nobody mentioned this. There was also no discussion about how a Queen trumps a King in chess, as well as in household matters, unless the king is Henry VIII. But this isn't Henry VIII, this is the Burger King. Come to think of it, I'm not exactly sure exactly what line of authority these two oligarchs claim. Wouldn't it be interesting if the Burger King and the Dairy Queen married and had a child? That would be one powerful prince or princess. Now, where was I? Oh, yes: the deciding factor for me is the fact that Dairy Queen sells Picadilly Chips, and you just can't find those anywhere else -- even in restaurants that sell "Fish and Chips" and then mock you by bringing out Fish and French Fries. So thanks, Dairy Queen, for keeping it real.

Taking my vote into account, though, the tally is as follows:

Undecided: 2

Dairy Queen: 3

Burger King: 5

There was also one misguided individual who voted for Arby's despite the fact that this was a fast food royalty showdown, and last I checked, an "Arby" was not a position of regality or nobility.

Burger King: You ARE the winner.

Creepy.
